This past weekend, I went to my very first crop. That's right--I've been scrapbooking for almost ten years, and I have never once gone to a crop and have rarely ever scrapped with other people!
The best part was hanging out with these fabulous SC girls--Julie, Rebecca Ertel, and Valerie! And they were wonderful company!

I must say, the crop was quite an experience. I walked in with a little tote bag and folder, and realized I was rather out of my element! People brought A LOT of stuff, and set it up in very creative ways. There were furniture pieces, printers, and die-cut machines. And lots of hutches over the tables. I even saw some people "vertical scrapping"--scrapbooking on magnetic boards that stand up to save space. It was truly a sight to behold.
All in all, I was happy with what I brought--my March Scarlet Lime kits, a few border and shape punches, adhesive, scissors, my Tiny Attacher, a paper trimmer and a stamp block and inkpad. I tend to get overwhelmed by too much stuff, so this was the perfect amount for me.
Have YOU ever been to a crop? What did you bring? How did you like it?
I haven't been to a crop in a million years! I bet it was tons of fun though! I wouldn't begin to know what to pack and not pack!
ReplyDeleteI go to a crop at a church once a month. I tend to pack more like you do -- a kit or two, a few essentials that I almost always use, and my photos. I'm more likely to leave the messiest, bulkiest items at home and bring along a note pad instead. I use the note pad to jot down things I'd like to add but didn't bring along, and then I always make time the following day to finish off my layouts. This seems to be the simplest and best system for me, though I understand why others bring everything -- they could have smaller stashes, less time outside of crops for scrapbooking, or just want to be prepared for whatever their heart desires while they're working.
ReplyDeleteI just saw Valerie's post on this. I'm so envious! I would have loved to be there. Yes, I've been to a couple (literally) crops but I've been so excited that I tend to chat more than scrap so it doesn't really matter what I take lol. That said, I usually take stuff that I've already pre-selected for LOs, so not too much, like you.
ReplyDeleteYay you! Hope you had fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI used to attend crops...but found that packing for them was insanely nutty...so pretty much stopped going to them. (I have to have EVERYTHING with me...lol.)
I'm the same. I went to a crop and didn't have much. I couldn't believe it when people brought printers. What?
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun Keshet - I hope we can all do another one soon!
ReplyDeleteYour first crop! Oh my, you were due! I crop at the LSS often and have been to 3 overnight weekend crops. I'll bring minimal supplies to the LSS but I bring as much as I can to the weekend ones. You never know what you're going to need. So glad to hear you had a fun time!
ReplyDeleteI used to take a ton of things to crops, but I've learned that it really doesn't work for me. I take minimal things with several projects in mind. Sometimes I'm productive and sometimes it just doesn't happen. :)
ReplyDeleteso glad you had fun! It's nice for the fellowship of it all...I personally only try to pack 2 bags so I tend to pack kits and projects and maybe a magazine or two...basic tools, 1 glue, 1 pair scissors...no machines EVER..BUT some folks I know bring everything AND the kitchen sink! It's a pet peeve of mine but I don't judge..my thing is this:if you don't have something, scrappers are the most giving people and will share with you.OR, add it when you get home!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you've never been to a crop before! I've been to TONS, but definitely remember the first one and the overwhelming shock of everyone's stuff - us scrap girls are crazy! :) I don't have a scrap room at home so my stuff is always packed in portable totes and I take it all. My fave is my crop 'n style P3 tote - love it.
ReplyDeletei haven´t been to many crops but we are a few friends that meet up for craft dates and to those my friends always say that i bring so much stuff, but i have downsized extremely! now, i more often than not, pack kits for each layout or project that i want to work on.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! The first crop I went to was with friends I met online and now we get together whenever we can. So much fun! I was surprised at how much people bring, too. Some people had big rolling toolbox things that were HUGE and I had my little rolling tote! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been to only one crop a few years ago and I didn't like it so much... Everyone knew everyone and were really good friends and I didn't know anyone. I didn't have anyone to talk to and wasn't even in the mood to create... :( :)
ReplyDeleteI'm happy for you that your first experience was so great!! What did you make?
BTW, love your top :)
Keshet, how fun that you and Valerie got to meet! Scrapper's envy here!
ReplyDeleteWow I've never been to a crop either. I think if I saw a hutch I would fall over out of shock! LOL! I dont know if I would be very productive. But I still would like to try going at least once. I'm glad you had a fun time!
ReplyDeleteI've been to a crop before and I love to scrap with others. Although I really enjoy scrapping alone too ;-)

I haven't ever been to one either Keshet. Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a crop in a very long time but I certainly wouldn't miss an opportunity to scrap with all of you!
ReplyDeleteHi there, thanks for your bloggy visit :) I hate packing & unpacking for crops - kind of defeats the object I think...and like you I travel light - waaaaaaaaay easier!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had fun. I have been going to crops for many, many years and really enjoy them for the opportunity to meet other women and make new friends as well as to share ideas. In fact, a lot of my scraproom storage decisions have been heavily influenced by wanting to make to easier to transport stuff to crops and weekend retreats too :)
ReplyDeleteSo jealous that you got to crop with CK! I am going to a crop in a few weeks with the club CK gals, then at the end of April with my regular scrapping partners. It is hard to pack--I usually consign myself to finish my LOs when I get home.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed your crop.
ReplyDeleteI went to Scrap for Heart, for the first time. I was blown away by what women brought.
Everything but the kitchen sink.....but I bet they had some stickers of the kitchen sink, teehee.
